Futures Forum Community

Mr. Heins previously served as Vice President of Facilities & Real Estate at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Houston, Texas (May 1991-October 1994). Prior to joining St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Mr. Heins was employed by Gerald D. Hines Interests (May 1985-May 1991) in various roles of property management, leasing, construction management, and project management. Mr. Heins completed his undergraduate coursework in Business at the University of Houston (BBA) and his graduate coursework in Business at Houston Baptist University (MBA). Mr. Heins is a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management, completing all requirements necessary for the CPM designation. He has held a Texas Real Estate Broker’s License since 1985. Mr. Heins has written manuscripts that were published by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and several other publications, spoken at industry conventions, and belongs to a variety of industry organizations.

Julia has been with CHRISTUS Health for almost 8 years. She currently works as System Director of Facility Design and Construction for CHRISTUS Health. CHRISTUS Health is a Catholic, faith-based, not-for-profit health system comprised of almost 350 services and facilities, including more than 50 hospitals and long-term care facilities. Previously, she was the Regional Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development for CHRISTUS Health Gulf Coast Region. Prior to joining CHRISTUS, Julia worked in the healthcare consulting arena for clients nationwide. Julia has served in several community leadership positions and currently serves on the board of Passages, Inc. Residential Treatment Facility, and the Trotter Family YMCA. She is an active member of several CHRISTUS Health task force and council groups as well as many national and community organizations including the American Hospital Association, American Society for Healthcare Engineering, the Greater Houston Partnership’s Executive Women’s Partnership and the River Oaks Business Women’s Exchange Club. Julia graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Human Biology and received her MBA from Rice University, Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business.

Prior to joining Catholic Healthcare West, Dave held V.P. Facilities Management positions with North Broward Hospital District, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and Danbury Health Systems, Danbury, Ct.. Dave holds a MBA in Financial Management and a BBA in Healthcare Administration from National University, San Diego, CA, and an AS in Biomedical Engineering. Dave is a retired Commander of the U.S. Navy Special Operations.

Prior to joining Ascension Health in April of 2006, McCoole was the CEO of Alberici Group, a large, multi-market contractor and construction services firm, also headquartered in St. Louis, typically ranked in ENR’s top 50 contractors in the U.S. He joined Alberici in 1981 worked in project management and business development prior to being named CEO in 1996.
McCoole is currently Ascension Health’s representative in the Global Health and Safety Initiative’s Built Environment workgroup.

Originally trained as an architect, Dennis has been working on the integration of the design and construction process with principles of user optimization of built facilities since 1983 when he formed his first design firm, Irvine Associates Architects. The firm was ultimately responsible for the planning and development of more than 40M square feet of completed projects before it was merged into a national architectural practice in 2002. In 1989, Dennis formed WESGroup to explore work environment strategies specific to owner/users of large space footprints and in 2002 formed Irvine Team. Dennis has worked with customers on projects encompassing more than $10B in value located throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
Dennis specializes in the methodologies, processes and system integrations that drive performance on design and construction projects. In 2009 he created the Futures Forum, a collaboration between top industry executives and business experts in breakthrough thinking and strategy development in the design and construction industry.
Dennis is a licensed architect and NCARB Certified. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects, PMI and Rice University Building Institute as well numerous other professional organizations. Additionally, he serves on the Boards of several non-profit organizations in the arts, health and social services.
